UPDATES

Assalamualaikum & Hello everyone!

It has been a hectic few months for me, so forgive me for not updating much on this blog. Truth is, it's easier to make updates via Facebook and a lot of customers reach me through FB too. The picture albums there are more organized, so head over there for much easier viewing of my previous work, OK.

Now, I've never mentioned it here, but I can also provide special dietary cakes and cupcakes. So if you're in Penang and looking for something vegan (eggless & dairy-free) or gluten-free (no flour) or sugarless/sugar-free, do shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Deliveries to Penang Island and surrounding areas is still available, but due to rising costs, I'll have to increase the delivery charge. You would understand, right? The fuel, time, energy, not to mention, vehicle maintenance, and the worst of all, traffic jams - they can just zap you dry :)

Hugs & kisses to all my loyal customers. Love you guys lots!

QUEEN OF HEARTS

Uploading the last photo of Yana's hantaran cake. This was a huge heart shaped cake, orange butter cake, filled with vanilla buttercream filling & finished with fresh cream. The fondant heart shaped deco was supposed to be hard, made a few days earlier, but at the last minute, turned soft & gooey when it rained the night before the day of delivery. My solution was to use cardboard cutouts and stick the fondant shapes together to form the firm shapes.

Sometimes you just gotta cheat, but as long as you declare & clarify to your customer, there shouldn't be a problem.

I couldn't trace the original design which Yana sent to me, so if you've seen this design elsewhere, do me a favour and notify me please.

FOR LOVELY NOLY

Usually, customers aren't encouraged to mix flavours in a box because it's quite a hassle for me, the baker, to prepare different kinds of cupcakes with different patterns and looks in a single box.

When I get a special request from Adis, I thought about it a little longer and said, "Well, why not?". If I'm a customer myself, I'd like to taste different kinds of flavours and not just get a box of pretty cakes. Having said that, I must also say that we work with a certain limitation, mixed cupcake within the same basic flavour which is either vanilla base or chocolate base.

So, what Adis chose for his sweetheart Noly were, chocolate chip cuppies with chocolate ganache, chocolate chip mint with mint buttercream, chocolate chip with orange buttercream, and chocolate with strawberry jam filling and vanilla buttercream.

Pretty fancy for a small cupcakery that operates from a small kampung home, if you ask me.

Thankfully, my customers love the combination very much (especially the mint one, YEAY! another chocolate mint lover convert!) and quite forgiving with the uninspired design, haha.

Thank you so much Adis for your order and Happy Birthday Noly :)

ONE

This was also made for Alin's birthday. As you can see, the ribbon and the cat figurine is an epic failure. I should really research and practice more with gumpaste as it should give a better result than the home made fondant. The guests couldn't figure out what creature that was on the cake! While they were not a total disaster, the fondant covering cracking and sliding off the cake was, which was why I resorted to so much cover-ups.

Imperfections aside, I was given credit for the much-loved and yummy orange cake. Also, muchas gracias to a very kind employee at a nearby Swensen's restaurant, who heard my panicky plea and gave me a single candle that I've forgotten to bring, free of charge.
