Just me, my girl, my spatula & my beat-up old Lumix. It's my happy face, and this is my happy place.

UPDATES

Assalamualaikum & Hello everyone!

It has been a hectic few months for me, so forgive me for not updating much on this blog. Truth is, it's easier to make updates via Facebook and a lot of customers reach me through FB too. The picture albums there are more organized, so head over there for much easier viewing of my previous work, OK.

Now, I've never mentioned it here, but I can also provide special dietary cakes and cupcakes. So if you're in Penang and looking for something vegan (eggless & dairy-free) or gluten-free (no flour) or sugarless/sugar-free, do shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Deliveries to Penang Island and surrounding areas is still available, but due to rising costs, I'll have to increase the delivery charge. You would understand, right? The fuel, time, energy, not to mention, vehicle maintenance, and the worst of all, traffic jams - they can just zap you dry :)

Hugs & kisses to all my loyal customers. Love you guys lots!

MENU

Cake Flavours

The Basics - Vanilla & Chocolate

Classic Milky Vanilla
Using the best recipe for a vanilla cupcake (as voted by the Cupcake Queen herself). The texture of the cake is soft yet moderately dense (so that you still get a bite of real cake), moderately moist, creamy but still on the fluffy side. Perfectly balanced taste of butter, milk and of course, vanilla. Just nice, just perfect.

What's on the menu?

Vanilla Sky
Vanilla cupcake with blue-tinged vanilla buttercream, a bite of this will make you sigh and dream in pure bliss of Monet paintings and a warm summer days.

Jane Doe
A nameless plain Jane of a vanilla cupcake with pink-tinged buttercream.

Paddle Pop Cupcakes
Mini vanilla cupcakes frosted with rainbow-hued paddle pop ice-cream colors! A hit with little kiddies

Cookie Crumble Cupcake
One of the best loved kiddy snack in cupcake form. Lots of crushed oreos mixed in the creamy milky batter, yummy vanilla frosting and sprinkled with more crushed oreos. Kids will go gaga over this.

 Classic  Chocolate
Has the same texture as the classic vanilla, only chocolate flavoured.  Not overly moist, yet not dry. Like I said, just nice. Perfect for those those who are not a fan of overpowering chocolate taste.

What's on the menu?
Meet Joe Black
Prepare for a burst of peanut butter filling when you bite into this cupcake.  Close you eyes and imagine Brad Pitt deliciously licking that spoon of PB. Death by chocolate!

Cookies & Cream
One of the best loved kiddy snack in cupcake form. Lots of crushed oreos mixed in the chocolatey batter, yummy creamy fresh cream frosting and sprinkled with more crushed oreos. Kids will go gaga over this.

Chocolate Mocha
A wonderful variation of the classic moist chocolate cupcake, a combination of bittersweet chocolaty taste that coffee lovers would enjoy.

What's on the menu?
Little Black Dress
The chocolate cupcake is moist, tender, not oily. The recipe calls for coffee granules, contributing to a bittersweet, kinda 'adult' taste to it. Top it off with poured chocolate ganache that will harden, just a bit, resulting in a shiny, glossy finish. Exactly the vision of a classy lady with a string of pearls about her neck.

Fresh Chocolate Mint
Not everybody's favourite choice of chocolate combo, but for those who loves the fresh breezy taste of peppermint, they would swear by this flavour (yours truly included). Subtle, not overpowering, works best with light peppermint buttercream.

What's on the menu?
Macho Mod Mint

Chocolate Mud

I tell ya, this cupcake is wicked. With large amount of butter, eggs and dark chocolate in the recipe, the texture is very rich and dense. For each sinful bite of this cake, you'll have to pray for the Lord's mercy.

What's on the menu?
Mississippi Mud Cupcake

Imagine a hippopotamus sloshing in the muddy Mississippi River (in case you wonder, there are no hippos in the Mississippi River, but I can't help my wild imagination) Served with cream cheese frosting and mini chocolate chips.

Hershey's Perfectly Chocolatey Cupcakes
This chocolate cupcake is extremely moist and has a very rich and strong chocolate aroma. Not overly sweet, the texture is fluffy, almost muffin like, but melts in your mouth as you bite. If you like your cake SUPER moist, this is the best pick.

What's on the menu?
Black-a-berry (credit to Zalin for the name suggestion!)

A deep contrast of the almost obscenely black cupcake and dark chocolate buttercream with a luscious strawberry on top.

Cinta Coffee (credit goes to Miss Cinta Coffee herself)
Moist Mocha Cake with coffee buttercream. I just love the pure coffee aroma in the buttercream, as I used strong coffee to flavour it.

PB & J
The favourite flavour of a typical American kid's cafeteria lunches - Peanut Butter & Jelly. Moist choc cake, peanut butter buttercream & of course, strawberry jelly!

Haffa Jaffa
My own little twist of the Jaffa Cakes that is widely popular in the UK. It's simply a moist choc orange cake with orange buttercream and white chocolate sprinkles.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fruity Range

Sweet Strawberry
Has the same texture as the basic vanilla, but with subtle strawberry flavour. No strawberry paste is used, only a dollop of good old strawberry jam (and perhaps with some chopped strawberries as mix-in, optional). Pink colouring/paste for the substantial strawberry look is also optional. Do let the baker know your preference.

What's on the menu?
 Berry Nice

Mary Jane
Plain strawberry cupcake with a strawberry frosting rose swirl

Juicy Vanilla Peach
Again, same texture as the basic vanilla, with the sticky sweetness taste of luscious peach syrup. Works best with chopped peaches.

What's on the menu?
Peaches 'N Cream
The traditional dessert, an old time favourite. Simply served with whipped cream frosting.

Life's Just Peachy
Peachy cupcake with peaches mix-in, lemony peach flavoured buttercream and topped with a sliver of peach (sadly,  of the canned kind). Do let me know if you want fresh fruits for the topper.

Zesty Lemon
Another fruity favourite. Fresh tangy taste, same texture as the basic vanilla. A good measure of real lemon zest is used. A delectable sweet tangy taste that makes you want to reach for a second one.

What's on the menu?
Lemony Snicket's Cupcakes
Zesty Lemon Cupcake balanced nicely with cheesy creamy buttercream frosting and adorned with colourful sprinkles.

Kiwi Fruit Cupcake
A burst for your tastebud in this kiwi flavoured cupcake. Sweet, intoxicating and exotic.

What's on the menu?
Aroha Keke (Love Cake)
Kiwi cupcake with added lemon zest for an extra kick, kiwi filling and kiwi flavoured buttercream. Topped with a slice of the exotic fruit.

Blueberry Cupcake
Blueberry flavoured cupcake and creamy blueberry buttercream.

What's on the menu?
Berry Winkle (sorry it looks purplish pink in here!)
Periwinkle, geddit? Oh never mind. Blueberry scented vanilla cupcake with sweet blueberry filling. (or crushed fresh berries, your call). Topped with blueberry buttercream and a smallish little flower for the simplest deco.

Banana Cupcake
A great classic banana cake recipe, using pureed sweet bananas. Finely textured, very bananary.

What's on the menu?
Bananarama

Simple paired with a thin layer and subtle cream cheese and topped with caramelized banana which adds a touch of sweetness.

Rich Coconut
A Malaysian inspired flavour, this cupcake is a class of it's own. Even for non-coconut lover like moi, chances are, you'll still love it's uniqueness. Made with warm coconut milk, fragrant pandan and crunchy coconut shavings, this is a great substitute of the usual Malay kueh.

What's on the menu?
Coco-kaya-nutties
Rich coconut cake with original kaya or pandan kaya flavoured buttercream frosting, piled high with sweet and lemak coconut shavings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Fancy Flavours

Simply Red  - Red Velvet Cupcake
The Great American classic. A dramatic, vampy red cake that is actually a mild chocolate cake with red coloring. Has moist, tender crumbly texture and taste best with cream cheese frosting.

Spanish Flair - Dulce Le Leche Cupcakes
Sweet caramelized milk in this tender cupcake. Frosted generously with DLL buttercream.

12 Carrot Gold - Carrot cupcake with cream cheese
A traditional favourite with a little modern twist. White chocolate to substitute the usual wrinkly raisins. Sprinkled with cinnamon sweetness for added sugar & spice factor to make it nice!

Princess of Persia
Inspired by the baklava, not by the gay cowboy - Rosewater and Pistachio Cupcakes. The epitome of fanciness.

FAQ

What is Liplickin'! all about?
Well, for start, you can read the About Liplickin'! page.

Is Liplickin'! halal?
I am a Muslimah, operating from my own kitchen and a pet-free, smoke-free home, and using fresh ingredients from a local bakery supplies shop with the halal certification. If that's good enough, then yes, all our cupcakes are halal.

So, if you work from home and not from a bakery, does the kitchen pass the health test?
I disinfect my kitchen on a daily basis, and I wash my hands like I have OCD. I sure don't want people to get sick eating my cupcake!

Do you do personalized cupcakes with themes and all?
Actually, Liplickin'! is passionate about simplicity. Cake decorating in this century has taken on a whole new level, and it is a serious form of art. However, I see this cupcake craze for something too unique and or too over the top, I'm afraid that the classic feel of having just a good cupcake without all the frills might lose it's charm. For now, the main focus is to keep it simple but delicious. That's what setting us apart. In short, I'm bringin' basic back, baby.

However, tell me how you'd like those personalized cupcakes and to be and we'll see how we can work with it to be special and simple at the same time. Any suggestions are welcomed.

What cupcake flavours do you have?
We offer a wide range of cupcake flavours, which you can view at our menu page at the sidebar on the right. You can also customize your own cupcake, starting from the cup size, right up to the sprinkles type. But remember, keep it simple :)

Can I choose mixed flavours?
Of course, but only if you order for S49 and more. Limit to 2 flavours only please.

Do you have normal sized cakes?
YES! Earlier in the biz, my main focus is cupcakes, but I'm open for normal sized specialty cakes now! More cakes and flavour will be added in the menu soon. For fondant cakes, my skill is very limited therefore I quote a very affordable, amateur price.

How long can cupcakes keep?
The cupcakes can keep unrefrigerated up to 4 day, stored in an air tight container. If kept in the fridge, the cupcake can last up to 7 days. Just take it out again to bring it to room temperature, and it will still taste great.

There is a minimum order, so is there a maximum order as well?
Yes! I am not a full time baker, I have a day job OK! But my hours are flexible. So I can only take a maximum order of 100 cupcakes per day.

Do you do delivery?
Yes, I can deliver your order with minimal charges. Just drop me an email for final price. Alternatively, we can discuss on a convenient pick up point.

Where are your delivery areas?
I can send all around Penang Island & Seberang Perai, Kulim, Sg. Petani & Alor Setar.

How can I place an order with Liplickin'?
You can drop an email to me at raggedyanne79[at]gmail[dot]com. Alternatively, you can use the order form (coming soon)

How do I book the date?
After you're satisfied with the quoted price, you can make a 50% deposit to secure the date. I will include my CIMB account number in our email correspondence or by sms.

How far in advance should I place an order?
I need at least 3 days to get prepared, especially if the order consists of fresh fruits. But it is best if I get a week's notice from the delivery/pick up date.

What are you other terms and conditions?
The 50% deposit is non-refundable upon last minute cancellation.
Full payment must be made prior to pick up/delivery.
Full refund will be made if I have to make the cancellation.
Price is subject to change without prior notice.

LIPLICKIN' CUPCAKES AT THE BIZ CAFE

Hey all! I'm truly sorry for the long silence.I've been resting since December and now I'm back on track, finding new ways to market my bakes with limited time and resources that I have.  I've been baking for a bit, but not much as before, most of them were experiments. No interesting photos to show either, which is a shame coz I made some pretty good ones, namely chocolate banana cheese cuppies & super fluffy, decadent red velvet cupcakes. None-the-less, do enjoy the ones below!

To help out a friend, I sent a box of cupcakes to her small cafe to see how well they would sell.

All are chocolate moist based, to be really safe since chocolate seemed to be more well received among cake lovers.

Top: Black Beauty - Moist choc cake with pink choc chips & strawberry buttercream
2nd: Macho Mod Mint - Moist mint choc cake with peppermint buttercream
3rd: Triple Chocolate - Moist choc cake with choc chips & choc buttercream
4th: Carnivale - Moist choc cake, pink choc chips & blueberry buttercream

All are sold out by Friday. Not bad for first week of business, considering the crowd are mainly during lunch hour.

The following week, I came up with a different variation and interesting combos.

From left: Cinta Coffee, specially named after my darling Yana all the way from HK. Moist Mocha Cake with coffee buttercream. I just love the pure coffee aroma in the buttercream, as I used strong coffee to flavour it. I could have eaten those myself if I didn't have to sell them :)

Next are named Haffa Jaffa. Funny name, eh? It's my own little twist of the Jaffa Cakes that is widely popular in the UK. It's simply a moist choc orange cake with orange buttercream. Next to it is I think, everyone's favourite (except mine) PB & J, moist choc cake, peanut butter buttercream & of course, strawberrry jelly!

The last one is Plain Nutty, a plain moist choc cake with slivers of almonds on top. Perfect for those who aren't partial to sweet frosting. Some people are like that you know. "Alah, I tak boleh makan manis lah..."

All these are selling at RM2.50 each. Cheap hor! Kat KL boleh dapat RM2.50? But I assure you I'd cut my own middle finger, all flavours are yummy to the core. I'm very happy that I can come up with different combos this time and concentrate on flavours again for once, coz I thought that for a while, I've taken too much time making my cupcakes look too pretty to be eaten.

The tiny cafe, but offers a wide range of menu every day. The mango lassi is to die for! Looks kinda bare at the time I took the photos coz my friend hasn't arrived with her special of the day and other breads and cookies for sale. My friend is quite a fair baker, she makes her own cheesecake and chocolate cake slices.

Forgot to write, super duper yummy Liplickin' Cupcakes!

So, what are you waiting for? Go and sample my cupcakes at The Biz Cafe, Ground Floor, Plaza MWE, Farquhar Road. It's right next to City Bayview Hotal, right after the bend where the Maybank branch in located. It's also near the location of the Little Penang Street Market (held every last Sunday of the month).

It's her fault!

It started when D texted me one day and asked whether I make rainbow cakes, coz she's curious how it tastes like. Since I haven't started making rainbow cakes at the time, fearing of the unknown, I tried asking a few friends in Penang areas whom I can recommend to her, but none of them makes the cake too.

I hate to tell her the bad news but afterwards, it got me thinking that probably it was a good idea to introduce this cake in my Liplickin' menu. So, thanks to D, I basically got the idea to create my own version of the cake. Yes D, it's all your fault! And I can't thank you enough for it :)

SIMPLY RED

If you don't know me by now..... you will never never never know me... ooohhh...

OK, you can quit dreaming now.

As I mentioned, it's exciting to finally have a paying customer for my cupcakes (well, if you don't count the ones I sold last Sunday). However, it was a last minute confirmation and I had only 1 day ahead to prepare the order.

Fortunately, my auntie (hah? your aunty if your 1st customer? what a joke!) doesn't really like fancy shcmancy designs and let me have full creative control. Phew, what a relieve. If not, berpeluh jugak.

This time, I opted Red Velvet Cupcake for her daughter Farah's birthday (my cousin lah tu!). I've always wanted to try the popular and classic American favourite, but of course at that time I was quite obsessed with my pursuit of the Great Vanilla Cupcake Experiment, so that plan was always put on hold.

The recipe that I tried wasn't really up to my standard - the batter was too scant and runny, resulting in messy drips on the souffle cups. It didn't rise well too, but the texture was really rich and moist. Lovely red colour, full bodied chocolate flavour (as I used Van Houten chocolate). I will try and look for a better recipe. It's really a shame if I didn't put this flavour in my menu.

Still lots of yumminess in there.

Especially coupled with the cream cheese frosting. To... die... for.

Hope that Farah and her *selected* friends like my cuppies. On a side note, eh girls as early as 9 ada clique-clique eh now? Like my auntie said, "Jangan jadi Mean Girls sudah!"

This weekend, I'll step up and come up with better looking cuppies, I promise.

Now, let's sambung nyanyi!

*puts on floppy hat & curly red wig* Say you love me all around the world...

The Ferrero Rocher Cake

I'm not sure if I've shared this on the blog before (getting old!), there's a new cake on the menu, THE FERRERO ROCHER CAKE. Layers of moist chocolate cake with nutella & cruchy hazelnut filling & covered in couveture milk chocolate ganache. I've received rave reviews about the cake, and if you'd like to try this cake, there's a special promo price of RM55 for a small 6" cake (<>900g). The standard size for this cake is 8", RM70 (deco varies).

Order from Syamim, thank you dik for always supporting my little business.

Here are some pics shared by Syamim.

A farewell cake from Faz to her collegues in Penang (she's in KL, btw). Thank you Faz!

This is Izyan's cake for the anniversary. Thank you babe...

And this is Shirley's cake, to be shared with her guests during a play date.
