UPDATES

Assalamualaikum & Hello everyone!

It has been a hectic few months for me, so forgive me for not updating much on this blog. Truth is, it's easier to make updates via Facebook and a lot of customers reach me through FB too. The picture albums there are more organized, so head over there for much easier viewing of my previous work, OK.

Now, I've never mentioned it here, but I can also provide special dietary cakes and cupcakes. So if you're in Penang and looking for something vegan (eggless & dairy-free) or gluten-free (no flour) or sugarless/sugar-free, do shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Deliveries to Penang Island and surrounding areas is still available, but due to rising costs, I'll have to increase the delivery charge. You would understand, right? The fuel, time, energy, not to mention, vehicle maintenance, and the worst of all, traffic jams - they can just zap you dry :)

Hugs & kisses to all my loyal customers. Love you guys lots!

Green Green Grass Of Home

Kak Hajar's (again!) latest order last week, this time for makan-makan just for her and kids. She said her kids tak puas-puas lagi makan coz the previous orders, most of the cupcakes were given away to family and friends.

These three boxes are for them alone - no more sharing!

Kak Hajar specifically requested I make green grasses to top of her red velvets. Her own words were "Entah, akak rasa segaaar je bila makan." Hehe, macam-macam. She also instructed me to just make simple designs, coz these are pretty last minute too. Today order, esok nak! *pengsan*

10 pcs in Choc Mod Mint and 15 Lemony Snickett's.

She wanted grasses too, so I added some flowery details, just to sweeten them up a bit. The previous cuppies I made for her were rather neutral and boyish (the Liverpool & golf cuppies in the previous posts)

Oops, there was another box of Cookie Crumble cupcakes which I've forgotten to snap pics of, but you already know how they look like, right?

Free Themed Cuppies

These are part of Kak Hajar's order the other day. She instructed me to just make simple cuppies coz right after I delivered her two boxes of cuppies, she ordered FOUR more to be delivered the next day! *pengsan*

A box of cookie crumble cuppies. She likes 'em with this simple-yet-yummy look.

I recommened the Lemony Snickett's - lemon cuppies with cream cheese. They loved it!

Choc Mod Mint - to satisfy Kak Hajar's hubby's craving for something cool & breezy.

Thanks so much Kak Hajar!

FOR LOVELY NOLY

Usually, customers aren't encouraged to mix flavours in a box because it's quite a hassle for me, the baker, to prepare different kinds of cupcakes with different patterns and looks in a single box.

When I get a special request from Adis, I thought about it a little longer and said, "Well, why not?". If I'm a customer myself, I'd like to taste different kinds of flavours and not just get a box of pretty cakes. Having said that, I must also say that we work with a certain limitation, mixed cupcake within the same basic flavour which is either vanilla base or chocolate base.

So, what Adis chose for his sweetheart Noly were, chocolate chip cuppies with chocolate ganache, chocolate chip mint with mint buttercream, chocolate chip with orange buttercream, and chocolate with strawberry jam filling and vanilla buttercream.

Pretty fancy for a small cupcakery that operates from a small kampung home, if you ask me.

Thankfully, my customers love the combination very much (especially the mint one, YEAY! another chocolate mint lover convert!) and quite forgiving with the uninspired design, haha.

Thank you so much Adis for your order and Happy Birthday Noly :)

BEARY SPECIAL GIRL

I gotta be honest. I was terribly excited to receive another fondant cupcake order, and this time from Ainul. It was a little difficult working with fondant this time due to the rainy season, but I think I did a pretty good job this time. This set was for her friend Izyan, who stays in Lunas.

I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Flavour is grasshopper cupcake - a chocolate cupcake with cream of mint filling, and a yet to be named cupcake that has an cream of orange filling.

Suggestions are very much welcomed!

GRASSHOPPER CUPCAKE

My take of the famous Southern pie - The Grasshopper Cupcake! Basically, it's a moist chocolate cake with a filling of mint cream and topped with chocolate ganache. I happen to have some caramel in the fridge so I just pop it on top of the cupcake, but I know that doesn't add any appealing effect to the photo. Hehe.

I apologize for the bad photos. And I really should have decorated the cupcake with a real mint leaf instead of a fondant leaf.

But I promise you, this is good stuff...

Credit goes to Nini for the inspiration. I've been wanting to try this for a long time.

A FRIEND IN NEED..

Sometimes I couldn't help thinking like I'm some sort of a superwoman.

How on earth I juggled 3 simultaneous orders in one night, designing, printing, cutting & gluing tags, rushed to the office, delivered the 3 orders within the same day and still make to that meeting in Penang (on a Friday summore! Hallo, Penang traffic on a Friday is impossible hokay?), I honestly don't know.

And I deserve a round of applause and a pat on the back for being able to pick up Nunu at 7pm on the dot as I've promised. Big round of applause, everyone!

This set was another SOS call. Kasuma pinged me and missed, then emailed me with a frantic request. To send a box of cuppies for her dearest friend, Kak Pah who was just transferred to a nearby school. A few sms exchanges after that, and it was settled. Such a pleasure to do business with you Kasuma! Another less than 24-hour notice order, but I guess the Almighty made it possible and easy for me.

Flavours were a mix of mint chocolatey cupcakes with mint buttercream and my latest experiment, moist chocolatey banana cuppies. They were delisious maximus but I have to tweak on the texture a bit more.

Happy belated Birthday, Kak Pah. Too bad I couldn't wait for you in the office and wish you personally. I had to go and save the world!

Up, up and away!

YOU BELONG WITH ME

While I was making this cuppies for Jaz, the famous Taylor Swift's song kept playing at the back of my mind. I'm sure the sneakers got something to do with it.

Flavour is Macho Mod Mint, perfectly minty chocolatey cupcakes with pepperrmint buttercream, my favourite! And the recipient of the cupcakes loved them too that he almost immediately placed an order for his father's birthday, which is coming soon.

Happy Anniversary, Jaz & Amer. May both of you belong together, forever.

MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN

For the first time, I received an order from a total stranger via internet. Ieda requested for a nautical (not nottical ok) theme as a surprise for her husband who's a naval engineer.
Thank goodness I have a very understanding and non-fussy customer who has trust me completely with the deco despite my shortcomings and inexperience. This is the best that I came up with.

M25 pieces of a mix of chocolate and chocolate mint with a mix of vanilla and mint buttercream. I didn't mix the colours in the blue and white buttercream thoroughly to get a better 'ocean' effect, but somehow I doesn't really show in the photos. They all look so blue in here, don't they?

A lifesaver using what else, a tiny minty lifesaver of course! But here in Malaysia it's best known as Polo, a staple candy during my SPM week, donkey years ago!

Those pinky bits are supposed to be red in colour, but I'm a little wimpy when it comes to food colouring, hehe. Somewhere in here lies a hidden treasure, strawberry jam filling!

Used those pinky bits of fondant for the lettering too. A good turn out I must say, considering that I'm only using a cheap alphabet cookie cutter!

To the very lovely and bubbly Ieda, thank you soooo much for your order. You have no idea how much this means to me, although I had to travel nearly an hour plus to find your home, it was all very worth it (forgot to tell you that Sg. Kechil is my hubby's birth place!). The short travel allowed me to wind down from all the stress I was having that Friday morning. Hope you guys enjoyed my creation yang tak seberapa tu.

OK, now let's sing!
My bonnie lies over the ocean
My bonnie lies over the sea....
My bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my bonnie to me....
