UPDATES

Assalamualaikum & Hello everyone!

It has been a hectic few months for me, so forgive me for not updating much on this blog. Truth is, it's easier to make updates via Facebook and a lot of customers reach me through FB too. The picture albums there are more organized, so head over there for much easier viewing of my previous work, OK.

Now, I've never mentioned it here, but I can also provide special dietary cakes and cupcakes. So if you're in Penang and looking for something vegan (eggless & dairy-free) or gluten-free (no flour) or sugarless/sugar-free, do shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Deliveries to Penang Island and surrounding areas is still available, but due to rising costs, I'll have to increase the delivery charge. You would understand, right? The fuel, time, energy, not to mention, vehicle maintenance, and the worst of all, traffic jams - they can just zap you dry :)

Hugs & kisses to all my loyal customers. Love you guys lots!

Si Baldu Merah

Linda, a friend of Aida a.k.a The Coffee Addicts, ordered a red velvet cake just for makan-makan. There's not much of a story here to share except for while waiting for her in the car to pick up the cake, it got so hot that I was tempted to get some ice-cream at a nearby ice-cream shop.

When she arrived, she had to help me hold my melting ice-cream cone so that I could get the cake out of the car, so that was hilarious :D

The feedback that I got from Linda and her family was awesome. Thanks Linda for the graciousness, and thank you Aida for spreading the sweet lovin' ;)

School Hols Cuppies

The day I delivered these cuppies to Teacher Niza was my hari kelam kabut sedunia. 100 pcs cuppies, a birthday cake, a hantaran cake and 80 pcs of cheesy-pop tarts to be made and delivered on the same day. And I was still feeling very sick at the time.

Alhamdulillah, Allah gave me the will to finish everything on time, with the help of some good friends too. These cuppies were for the teachers of SMK Mengkuang to mark the start of the school holidays.

A box of cookie crumble, rosewater-pistachio, chocolate mod mint and another box of mixed cupcakes; red velvet, honey caramel, and chocolate.

Pretty Reds, Blacks & Whites...

... for Kak Hajar's family, yet again. The children couldn't get enough of 'em apparently, according to her :)

Pretty last minute, so I kept it simple. I knew she likes green cream cheese on top of her red velvets..

Owenges & Webbits

60 pieces of moist chocolatey cuppies for Kak Annaliza's students, which came with individual containers. I forgot to ask her, did her students feel happy to get cuppies instead of angpows?

Thanks Kak Liz for being such an ardent supporter of Liplickin'! Cupcakes :D

Green Green Grass Of Home

Kak Hajar's (again!) latest order last week, this time for makan-makan just for her and kids. She said her kids tak puas-puas lagi makan coz the previous orders, most of the cupcakes were given away to family and friends.

These three boxes are for them alone - no more sharing!

Kak Hajar specifically requested I make green grasses to top of her red velvets. Her own words were "Entah, akak rasa segaaar je bila makan." Hehe, macam-macam. She also instructed me to just make simple designs, coz these are pretty last minute too. Today order, esok nak! *pengsan*

10 pcs in Choc Mod Mint and 15 Lemony Snickett's.

She wanted grasses too, so I added some flowery details, just to sweeten them up a bit. The previous cuppies I made for her were rather neutral and boyish (the Liverpool & golf cuppies in the previous posts)

Oops, there was another box of Cookie Crumble cupcakes which I've forgotten to snap pics of, but you already know how they look like, right?

Sunny Skies & Garden Friends

Rina of Papakeechee requested a very colourful themed cuppies to be shared with her friends at the office. As you can see from her blog, she has a thing for bright colours, coz she is a colourful character herself. Tak main la pastel-pastel, mellow-sallow like me, hehe.

25 small sized rosewater & pistachio cuppies.

I admit that my drawing skills still needs a lot of improvement. But Rina didn't seem to mind, as she blogged about the cuppies here.

Thanks a bunch, Rina!

P/S: Rina'a having a giveaway at her stitching blog at Sinfully Stitched. Don't miss out on joining coz she has an awesome hand-stitched bag up for grabs!

SMTBw Reunion Cake

My friend Lili sponsored 25s Perfectly Chocolatey Cupcakes and a small cake for her sister's school reunion.

Lagi-lagi last minute job! Just look at the school logo. Apa kebendanya pun taktau... asal ada rupa logo asal jadi ler. Itu pun Lili and the rest of the alumni complimented that the cake looks and tastes great.

Thanks a bunch Lili and adik-adik! It feels so good when your hard work is appreciated.

Very simple choc cuppies with minimal design. Budget mah...

HUGS & KISSES

This set of cuppies which I lovingly name Hugs & Kisses were made for my nieces, Bida & Alya. Ada yang dorang nak makan & dengar ura-uranya nak bagi seketul dua for their 'special friends' (lucky people!).

Half of the cuppies were chocolate moist with blueberry filling & another half, chocolate moist with strawberry filling, topped with fresh cream. The girls made a very last minute order, coincidentally I had some gumpaste decorations in the shades of pink and purple in stock! Bertuah punya budak-budak ler...

RED VELVET SWIRLS

These simple cuppies were requested by bride-to-be Atikah, whom I think is making a round of cake testing before finalizing on her choice of wedding cake & kenduri favours.

And she has good taste. These are red velvet with an extra ordinary frosting - strawberry jam buttercream instead of cream cheese, which I find an interesting combination.

Thanks so much for the order Atikah & fiance! It's so great to know you guys enjoyed these sweeties..

STRAWBERRY LUX

Old age and dementia must be creeping up on me, I almost left out this luxurious order of dulce de leche cuppies with choc lava filling & choc ganache & strawberry toppers by Fazreen.

Initially, we had other plans for the toppers. However, my fondant wasn't drying very well due to the rainy weather for a couple of days/nights. Which is why I learnt my lesson -  use gumpaste next time since the temperature in my kitchen & house is quite unreliable. Much fast-drying I suppose. So in the last minute, we agreed to use fresh strawberries instead. Alhamdulillah, Fazreen was a very understanding customer.

Thank you so much for your support, Fazreen! I'm really happy the little kiddies liked the cuppies :)

PINEAPPLES REMIND ME OF BIKINIS

Yeah, seriously. No thanks to Spongebob and his thorny lair. I was this close to naming my pineapple cupcakes 'Bikini Bottom'... though the name does conjure up mental images of Hawaii, bikini babes & summer beaches.

But scrap that name. After getting some suggestion from friends in FB, these sweet pineapple cuppies are aptly named 'Pina Tierra'.

Both orders were by Kak Liz, a few weeks apart actually. These are pretty old photos, I can't even remember when they were taken.

The days were so warm around that time and chitchatting with Kak Liz on FB about the weather lead us to the creation of my pineapple cupcakes. Kak Liz is the only person I know who's crazy enough to eat pineapple right out of a cold can.

Two weeks after she had my pineapple cupcakes, she asked for an old classic - pineapple upside down cake, simply coz she couldn't find any place selling this cake.

So, thanks Kak Liz, for believing in me.

UPSIDE DOWN STRAWBERRY CUPPIES

It took me 3 hours at 3 different hypermarket to look for fresh strawberries that day. Finally found these big fat Driscoll's strawberries at Jusco Perda.

Thanks Dnul for the order! I think she's my first customer ever who ordered fresh strawberry toppers. I do hope your cute girls love the cuppies.

VIOLETS ARE BLUE

Being a baker, even for just a part-timer, sometimes I can't help feeling like I'm on an on-call basis.

I received an urgent phone call from a lovely lady whom I've just met, Kak Aida. She's a well known baker and chocolatier who has, wait for it - her own chocolate factory.

Alas, running such a successful business, she could not keep up with the demands of cake making when she has trouble hiring skilled workers herself. So she called me instead.

What an honor it was.

This was made for Kak Aida's customer, Ela, a teacher in Simpang Ampat. The occasion was for Teacher's Day, her gift for her friends. Simple jer lah, 24-notice.

Thank you, Ela and Kak Aida for the opportunity.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET...

... how to get to Sesame Street!

I must admit, my favourite characters from the show are Oscar the Grouch (coz he's tries so hard to be mean!). He's one of the more interesting character's around.

And Big Bird. What a big heart he has. I wish I have the time to make more Sesame Street characters for my nephie-poo, Ieman's birthday, but this was all I can come up with in such a short notice.

I was worried that the kids would be turned off by his ugly mossy colour, but to my surprise, Oscar was more popular than Big Bird!

Mini-sized cuppies that were a hit at the party.

GONE DOTTY

What I love about being in this 'sweet' business is when I keep meeting nice and sweet people, like Shahnaz, who has complete and utter faith in me to come up with some special treats for her mother.

And how sweet of her to travel all the way from the city to her hometown in Alor Setar, to surprise that poor mother of hers on the latter's birthday, tercongok depan pintu with 3 boxes of cakes!

A mix of chocolate & peanut butter, jaffa and coffee cupcakes with vanilla and chocolate buttercream

It wasn't easy for me to cater to orders on a weekday, so I hope everyone didn't mind the simple designs.

Dulce De Leche cupcakes, which according to Shahnaz, were her favourite flavour. Thanks a bunch, babe!
