UPDATES

Assalamualaikum & Hello everyone!

It has been a hectic few months for me, so forgive me for not updating much on this blog. Truth is, it's easier to make updates via Facebook and a lot of customers reach me through FB too. The picture albums there are more organized, so head over there for much easier viewing of my previous work, OK.

Now, I've never mentioned it here, but I can also provide special dietary cakes and cupcakes. So if you're in Penang and looking for something vegan (eggless & dairy-free) or gluten-free (no flour) or sugarless/sugar-free, do shoot me an email and we'll talk.

Deliveries to Penang Island and surrounding areas is still available, but due to rising costs, I'll have to increase the delivery charge. You would understand, right? The fuel, time, energy, not to mention, vehicle maintenance, and the worst of all, traffic jams - they can just zap you dry :)

Hugs & kisses to all my loyal customers. Love you guys lots!

Over The Rainbow

A few days before Eid, Dyanna texted me and asked about rainbow cakes. I've made this cake before for Nunu's birthday last year but never planned to put it on sale since it's so leceh to make, plus I couldn't imagine using so much food colour! I've always wanted to keep my bakes as natural as possible, but let's face it, this awesome cake is irresistible!

photo googled from here

For Ilani's adik... didn't get the chance to ask how old is the adik, since the order was quite last minute. Alhamdulillah, with Allah's willing, I managed to complete the order in time.

When Benny Meets Jimmy...

Rina the Papakeechee ordered this red velvet cake for her son Arees who turns three last July (huh, July?? And now it's September baru nak upload?)

This is my first time using chocolate transfer method without any prior practice/training whatsoever. Main hantam saja. I suggest that my customers still to  edible image and never EVER require me to EVER make buttercream drawings on a cake again. Truly, it's horrendous, LOL. I'll stick to simple looking cakes next time ya.

However, Rina and her guests really loved the red velvet & the cream cheese frosting. Thanks my dear!

Al-Fatihah

Alhamdulillah, Ramadhan & Eid came and went in a flash. Even though it was a time for celebration and happiness, I couldn't help feeling rather down. It has been a sad few weeks.

Puan Fatimah, the Chairman of PDK Permatang Damar Laut, the charity body that I'm contributing to, had just lost her daughter to a lung infection the last Ramadhan. Mumtaj was a vibrant young woman who also contributed her time and energy at the centre as volunteer. I didn't get the chance to get to know her well, but I believe she was a kind soul. When I visited Puan Fatimah a few days after the wake which I missed, I cried listening to her story.

A few days later, I received another startling news of the passing of a respected Dewanita member, Puan Rohani Md Anwar, or Umi as I affectionately call her. I am not sure what was her ailment, but she too, never showed any signs of frailness or sickness in the few weeks I saw her before Ramadhan. She was always this energetic and fashionable lady who was not afraid to speak her mind. In fact, she even introduced me this amazing product  the last time I met her. She shall be missed dearly by all of us.

May Allah blesses both Umi's and Mumtaj's soul, admit them along with the righteous and make them among the inhabitants of Jannah. Amin.

Liplickin' Charity Drive

Assalamualaikum w.b.t dear visitors and customers,

Last year, we launched Cupcakes for Charity (which I shall rename as Liplickin' Charity Drive since we have a lot more to offer) and it was very well received, thanks to everyone who contributed and a few bakers who joined me for the cause (you know who you are ;). The money we raised goes to Tabung Dewanita and will be presented to PDK Permatang Damar Laut at an iftar event that would be held soon by DPMMPP, Insya-Allah.

I'm kicking off this year's promotion for our charity drive for Dewanita and PDK Permatang Damar Laut with an assortment of raya cookies.

Kindly visit my facebook page for easy viewing, and for order inquiries, you can drop me an email at raggedyanne79@gmail.com or leave a message on my FB page. I'm working on a proper order form, so I'll announce when it's ready.

Please click my facebook Raya Cookies 2011 album to view the cookies for sale.

All cookies are of high quality ingredients and homemade. And they all passed the taste test ;) so don't succumb to those sub-par cookies that might end up tasting 'all the same'. I don't make these cookies on my own. These are products of Bumiputera entrepreneurs and this is my way of helping them market their products.

Below is the blog entry I wrote last Ramadhan about the cause for this charity drive.

------------------------------------------------------
Assalamualaikum everyone.

Ramadhan is here once again and I've been planning to do this for quite sometime. I've been making this business as a side income and we all know that, for all the blessings and rizq we receive from the Almighty, it is not 100% ours to keep.

Sebahagian daripada rezeki itu adalah hak orang lain.

So, I'm announcing that 10% of all Liplickin' profit will go to charity. It's not much, but it is a start. I'm really hoping that others can join me to do the same.

The proceeds will go to a fund for PDK Permatang Damar Laut, Pulau Pinang. The center is run by a good friend of mine, Puan Fatimah Kader Bacha. The fund mentioned is managed under an NGO - DEWANITA Pulau Pinang, a women entrepeneur wing of Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia Pulau Pinang.

She needs the fund very badly to run a workshop for the disabled children under her care and to equip them with proper skills and knowledge in different areas of industries and to groom them to be independent entrepreneurs and not just mere workers.

Though I'm helping here in a small way, I believe that if more people can join me and pledge the same, Puan Fatimah will have enough fund to start with.

Just imagine, if I can only come up with a maximum of RM100, and I can find other bakers for example, to do the same, say 25 people, we've already raised RM2500. Enough to buy some basic ingredients and equipments for Puan Fatimah to teach the kids bake cookies, for example.

Those who dropped by this blog, do help me spread the word around, ya? Those who are interested to join this cause,  please email me at raggedyanne79@gmail.com and I'll give more details.

Ni Aunty Anne nak pergi kempen ni... berniaga sambil beramal.

My little girl enjoyed her visit to the centre recently and didn't want to go home!

Here's wishing everyone a blessed Ramadhan. Semoga segala amalan kita diberkati dan diterima oleh-Nya.
